Lindsey Hergesheimer,

Biography

Lindsey Hernandez Hergesheimer, MPH, oversees the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute’s (ATRI) growing Clinical Monitoring team, which manages clinical trials around the world. Her team, which is part of the Medical Safety Section, travels to more than 130 clinical trial sites in the U.S., Canada, and the European Union, ensuring participant safety and consistency with ATRI’s research protocols and standards. Hergesheimer started at ATRI in 2016 as a Clinical Data Manager Lead, before shifting into a Clinical Monitor Manager role in 2019. She was promoted to her current position in 2023.

Originally trained as an Emergency Medical Technician, Hergesheimer brings firsthand medical experience to her work. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), she took part in humanitarian missions as a civilian corpsman and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the U.S. Naval Ship (USNS) Comfort. She also provided direct care to patients as an EMT with Symon’s Ambulance in San Diego. Hergesheimer then worked in a clinic setting, supporting participants taking part in diabetes and obesity-related studies. She completed this work as a clinical research and lab assistant at ProSciento Clinical Research Organization in Chula Vista. This experience gives her an invaluable perspective that she uses in assessing and managing the practicalities of clinical trials.

Hergesheimer is also skilled at data analysis and management. She is an expert at analyzing and interpreting large amounts of data using statistical software, as well as validating data, and developing study reports with metrics and graphics. She has used her skills to develop data management plans and protocols for clinical trials.

Hergesheimer received her Master of Public Health in Global Health Leadership from the University of Southern California. The MPH program provided her with a strong foundational education in the history and philosophy of public health. She also developed practical knowledge that she uses in her role, in leadership and management, evidence-based reasoning, clinical research design, informatics, and the cultural contexts of public health. As part of her undergraduate studies at UCSD, Hergesheimer also studied abroad at the Universidad de Costa Rica. She speaks intermediate-level Spanish. She also holds a Biostatistics Certification from UCSD Extension. A trained yoga instructor, she has taught classes for ATRI employees onsite and virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2025, Hergesheimer won a Keck School of Medicine Employee Wellness & Well-being award. She was recognized for fostering a culture of support and health within her team and across the institution. Nominated by a member of her team, she was credited with creating a workplace environment that prioritizes mental health and well-being.
