Education and Training

Achieving Our Mission

The Recruitment, Engagement and Retention (RER) Section faculty and staff are committed to furthering the education and training of students, fellows, researchers, and staff in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) clinical trials research. The RER Section is involved in the following professional training programs, with additional information found below:

Impact-AD

IMPACT-AD is an ADRD training program that aims to educate and promote diversity among research professionals and future principal investigators in the field of ADRD research. The course emphasizes diversity of trainees, interactive learning, a cooperative culture among alumni and long-term metrics of success. In addition to lectures given by national leaders in ADRD trials, attendees have the opportunity to work closely with the field’s top investigators in small group workshops.
IMPACT-AD is co-directed by ATRI RER and Biostatistics Section Director Dr. Rema Raman and UC Irvine MIND Director Dr. Joshua Grill, and is funded by the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Institute of Aging.

ATRI Summer Student Research Internship Program

As a part of ATRI, the RER Section participates in the Institute’s Summer Student Research Internship Program for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Program interns work closely with and learn from ATRI’s internationally renowned, multi-disciplinary team of scientists, researchers, and staff members who specialize in many areas of ADRD clinical trials research.
Internship positions are available within the RER team and also in the following units of ATRI: Biostatistics, Clinical Monitoring, Informatics, Data Management, and more.

Alzheimer’s Trial Recruitment Innovation Lab

Funded by the American Heart Association as part of a Strategically Focused Research Network (SFRN) on the Science of Diversity in Clinical Trials, the Alzheimer’s Trial Recruitment Innovation Lab (ATRIL) is now accepting applications for a fellow to join the program in the fall of 2023. This 2-year program, in collaboration with the USC Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute and Howard University, is designed to train and develop the next generation of researchers interested in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias clinical trials through a multidisciplinary, active and team-based learning approach.
